Vanguard Can’t Hold Lead, Loses to Azusa Pacific in Overtime

Vanguard led by as many as four points in the second half, but the host Lions were unable to pull off the upset and Azusa Pacific won in overtime, 84-75, in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Azusa Pacific, ranked eighth in the NAIA, tied the game late in regulation and outscored Vanguard, 14-5, in overtime. Caleb Gervin led the Cougars (14-1, 1-0) with 21 points and six assists.
Vanguard (4-8, 0-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Kemmy Burgess with 22.
In other GSAC games:
Christian Heritage 74, Hope International 57--The Royals (8-7, 0-1) couldn’t make up a 12-point halftime deficit and lost at Christian Heritage (11-1 overall).
Pt. Loma Nazarene 69, Concordia 50--The Eagles (6-5, 0-1) lost a six-point halftime lead after getting outscored, 38-23.
Brad Degrenier scored 14 points for Concordia (6-5).
