Reinstated Wolvert Takes Anger Out on USC

Oregon’s Angelina Wolvert went from the doghouse to the penthouse and back to the doghouse Sunday at the Sports Arena, in leading the Ducks to a 74-66 Pacific 10 Conference win over USC, which now has lost four in a row and six of seven.
Wolvert scored 25 points in 23 minutes in a game for which she originally had been suspended by Coach Jody Runge.
Wolvert, after her team lost at UCLA on Friday, 70-68, walked off the court without shaking hands with Bruin players and Runge suspended her for the USC game.
But Oregon players called for a team meeting Sunday and Runge agreed to back down and let Wolvert, a senior, play. But Wolvert didn’t enter the game until well into the first half.
Runge, still steamed over the Friday night incident at Pauley Pavilion, indicated alternate punishment awaits Wolvert in Eugene.
“Angelina played a great game, but she’s still in the doghouse,” Runge said. “She will go home and she will do a lot of running and she will write letters of apology.”
USC, 9-15 overall and 4-10 in the Pac-10, built a 34-27 halftime lead.
Then, after Oregon (14-11, 7-8) launched the second half with a 9-0 run, Wolvert deployed her inside muscle to score 10 points during a 6 1/2-minute stretch that carried Oregon to a 52-46 lead.
