Doctors delivered a baby boy whose mother was fatally shot Saturday in the city of Industry during a robbery attempt, authorities said.
The woman was caught in the line of fire during a robbery attempt on her boyfriend, said sheriff’s Deputy Harry Drucker. She was taken to County-USC Medical Center in extremely critical condition after the 9:30 p.m. shooting and she died about 5 p.m. Sunday, Drucker said.
Her baby boy, weighing 3 pounds 5 ounces, was delivered and reported to be in stable condition Sunday evening, said hospital spokeswoman Adelaida De La Cerda.
The shooting happened at Mickey’s Liquor at 13512 Valley Boulevard. The woman was sitting in a car in the parking lot of the store, Drucker said.
Her boyfriend had just come out of the store when he was approached by two men who demanded money, Drucker said. The boyfriend took off running toward the car, he said.
The suspects fired several shots, missing the boyfriend but striking the girlfriend at least once in the upper torso, Drucker said. No suspects were in custody, and detectives continued to investigate the crime Sunday.
