Fight Over ‘Ahmanson’ Name

* Re “Drop the Name Game,” Ventura County editorial, Feb. 11.
Thank you for your supportive editorial in this David-verses-Goliath struggle [over Web site names involving Ahmanson Ranch].
In July, Save Open Space was hit with three inches of legal documents from Washington Mutual to shut down the Web site www.ahmanson.org and stifle free speech. Ed Masry came to the rescue to help save this site, which is the voice for Ahmanson Ranch.
Heartfelt thanks to pro bono attorneys Masry and David Weeks of the law firm Masry and Vititoe and attorney Eve Wagner of Sauer and Wagner for helping keep this from being shut down.
Ahmanson Ranch is now home to four species that come under the Endangered Species Act. The magnificent Ahmanson Ranch, the headwaters of Malibu Creek, also has the largest and finest remaining stand of California native grasslands and 8,000 oaks as the southernmost of California valley oak savannas.
This virgin watershed land must be preserved as permanent parkland as the unique representation of California’s historic landscapes.
