Catcher Laker Signs With Indians

Catcher Tim Laker, formerly of Simi Valley High, signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians.
Infielder John Toven, who played at Kennedy High, signed a minor league contract with the Houston Astros.
Laker, 31, batted .247 with 19 home runs and 75 runs batted in last season at Triple-A Nashville in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization. Laker has a .225 average in parts of six major league seasons.
Toven batted .253 with two home runs and 39 RBIs for the St. Paul Saints of the Independent Northern League.
