A 29-year-old female passenger riding in a car traveling the wrong way on a street in an unincorporated area near Compton was killed Sunday when the vehicle collided with a tow truck.
California Highway Patrol investigators said the woman was in a 2001 Ford Mustang being driven east in a westbound lane on Rosecrans Avenue when it was struck by the truck about 6:40 a.m. near the intersection with Main Street.
The tow truck driver tried to swerve to avoid the oncoming car, according to the CHP.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene; the Mustang’s driver, 22, was hospitalized with major injuries, police said. The tow truck driver, 37, was taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, they said.
