Ten Russian servicemen were killed and 11 wounded in rebel attacks across Chechnya in a 24-hour period, an official in the region’s pro-Russian administration said.
Three soldiers were killed by mine blasts targeting Russian military trucks, two died when rebels opened fire on an armored personnel carrier, and four died in rebel hit-and-run attacks on federal posts, the official said.
One soldier was killed in an hourlong shootout with rebels in the town of Argun, nine miles east of the separatist republic’s capital, Grozny, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
