Where: Firestone Country Club, South Course (7,139 yards, par 70); Akron, Ohio.

Purse: $5 million. Winner’s share: $1 million.

TV: USA (today-Friday, 2-6 p.m.) and Channel 2 (Saturday, noon-3 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.).

Last year: Tiger Woods defended his title, shooting 64-61-67-67 for a tournament-record 21-under 259--his lowest score as a pro.

Last week: David Toms won the PGA Championship for his first major title, beating Phil Mickelson by a stroke at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Toms shot 66-65-65-69 to finish at 15 under.

Notes: The tournament is open to the U.S. Ryder Cup team, the top 12 players in the European Ryder Cup standings and the 2000 Presidents Cup team members.

Reno-Tahoe Open

Where: Montreux Golf and Country Club (7,552 yards, par 72); Reno, Nev.

Purse: $3 million. Winner’s share: $540,000.

TV: The Golf Channel (today-Sunday, 5-7:30 p.m.).

Last year: Scott Verplank won with an eight-foot birdie putt on the fourth hole of a playoff with France’s Jean Van de Velde.

Notes: Notah Begay III won the inaugural tournament in 1999 for his first tour title.

Betsy King Classic

Where: Berkleigh Country Club (6,197 yards, par 72); Kutztown, Pa.

Purse: $800,000. Winner’s share: $120,000.

TV: The Golf Channel (Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 8-10 p.m.).

Last year: Michele Redman won her second tour title, beating Meg Mallon and Jean Bartholomew by three strokes.

Last week: Annika Sorenstam won the Canadian Women’s Open for her tour-best sixth victory of the season.

Notes: Tournament host Betsy King won the ShopRite Classic last month for the 34th victory of her Hall of Fame career. . . . Sorenstam, the 1996 and 1997 winner, is skipping the tournament.

AT&T; Canada Senior Open

Where: Mississaugua Golf & Country Club (6,663 yards, par 72); Mississauga, Ontario.

Purse: $1.6 million. Winner’s share: $240,000.

Last year: Tom Jenkins made a 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole to beat Kermit Zarley by a stroke at Winnipeg, Canada.

Last week: Steve Veriato won the Utah Showdown for his first senior title, shooting three 68s.

Notes: Six Canadian Opens have been played on the Mississaugua course, with Walter Hagen winning the first in 1931 and Sam Snead the second in 1938. . . . Allen Doyle leads Bruce Fleisher by 19 points in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. The winner will receive a $1-million annuity from the $2.1-million bonus pool.

Last year: Jeff Quinney beat James Driscoll with a 30-foot birdie putt on the 39th hole at Baltusrol in Springfield, N.J.

Notes: Bobby Jones grew up playing the East Lake course.... Ty Tryon, a 17-year-old Florida player who had strong performances in the Honda Classic and B.C. Open, plans to turn pro next week.
