Some comedians build their act around cutting close to the bone, and New York comic Shang is no exception. His upcoming debut album is titled “Shangry!” Tonight the comic, who recently riffed on “HBO’s Aspen Comedy Special: Best of the Fest,” makes his first Orange County appearance, tackling such issues as feminism, fascism and political correctness.* Shang, Bourbon Street’s Lafayatte’s Comedy Cafe, 14131 Red Hill Ave., Tustin. 8 p.m. $10. California artists will whip up the brushes and pigments at Mission San Juan Capistrano during the seventh annual Outdoor Professional Painting Competition. They will paint through the week at locations within 10 miles while the public can watch. The best impressionist works will be selected by a panel of judges, and artists may win a total of $10,000, sponsored by Joan Irvine Smith Fine Arts and the California Art Club. Participants are club members. Paintings will be on sale and exhibited at the Barracks Gallery.* ‘Outdoor Professional Painting Competition,’ Mission San Juan Capistrano, 31522 Camino Capistrano.
