Environmentalists Sue to Provide Eagles Water

In the latest twist in a bitter water war, environmental groups went to court in an attempt to obtain water for hundreds of bald eagles that traditionally winter in the Lower Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge on the Oregon-California border.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation failed to offer water to the refuge as mandated by the Endangered Species Act, according to one of the groups that filed suit in U.S. District Court in Oregon.
In a statement, Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton expressed disappointment, saying the suit fails to grasp the basin’s complex issues.
