Local Baseball Players Make U.S. Youth Team

Andrew Beal of Palos Verdes Estates, Chris Valaika of Valencia, Jeff Flaig of Placentia, Daniel Perales of Orange and Zechry Zinicola of San Bernardino have been selected to the 2001 USA Baseball youth national team that will compete in the International Baseball Federation World Youth Baseball Championships Friday through Aug. 12 in Veracruz, Mexico.
Beal is a pitcher at Palos Verdes Peninsula High, Zinicola a pitcher/infielder at Riverside Arlington, Flaig an infielder/pitcher at Placentia El Dorado, Valaika an infielder at Newhall Hart, and Perales an outfielder at Santa Ana Mater Dei.

* Pitcher Max Winsberg earned three victories and Jake Rosene hit two home runs as the Granada Hills-based North Valley Youth Baseball’s Pinto Division team for 7- and 8-year-olds won the California World Series for the third consecutive year.
The team was managed by Rocky Sherwood.
