Re “Murder Trial Ends With a Restoration of Faith,” Sept. 21:
I found criminal defense attorney Bill Bartz’s comments about the victim’s family offensive. Bartz represented Gilbert Raul Rubio, who was sentenced to death for killing Downey school Vice Principal George Blackwell. Bartz called the daily trial attendance of Blackwell’s brothers “sick” and “perverted.” This from someone who represented a person who forced his way into the home of a man who had previously given him work, then forced him to write a $2,000 check, bound and gagged him with duct tape and a dog chain and finally shot him to death.
Just out of curiosity, Mr. Bartz, if you find the family’s court attendance “sick” and “perverted,” how do you describe your client’s conduct?
