Harvard-Westlake Takes Toring Title

James Bloomingdale had five goals and the Wolverines scored in every quarter en route to defeating Los Alamitos, 8-6, in the championship game of the Jim Toring Memorial Invitational water polo tournament Saturday at Harvard-Westlake.
Harvard-Westlake beat Dos Pueblos, 13-5, in the semifinals Saturday on the strength of three goals by Will Noll.
Luppe Luppen and Mike Gross combined for 13 saves for Harvard-Westlake (6-0), which avenged a 7-5 loss to Los Alamitos in last year’s tournament final.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
CS Northridge def. Idaho State, 15-8, 15-11, 7-15, 15-11--Alexis Cormier had 18 kills and 15 digs, and Laura Szymanski had 17 kills and 14 digs as the Matadors won their second consecutive Big Sky Conference match Saturday at Idaho State.
Heather Zall had 49 assists and 12 digs for Cal State Northridge (7-1, 2-0).
CROSS-COUNTRY
Woodbridge Invitational--Anita Siraki of Hoover High, the defending state and Southern Section Division I champion, ran the second fastest time in the history of the Woodbridge Invitational meet Saturday.
Siraki won the Division II girls’ varsity race in 16 minutes 44 seconds, which was 14 seconds off the course record set by Canyon’s Lauren Fleshman in 1998.
Newport Harbor’s Amber Steen, who had the fastest girls’ time at last weekend’s Laguna Hills Invitational, finished second--56 seconds behind Siraki in 17:40. She was followed by Laura Jakosky of Agoura in 18:12.
North Hollywood’s Natalie Stein won the Division I girls’ varsity race in 17:17.
La Canada, led by Division IV girls’ winner Nicole Bonino, who timed 21:56, won the Division IV girls’ team competition.
