Titan Women Begin Volleyball Tournament With Easy Victory

Senior outside hitter Jamie Ivers had 14 kills and 17 digs as Cal State Fullerton swept Idaho State, 15-6, 15-11, 16-4, at the Four Points Titan Classic women’s volleyball tournament Friday at Fullerton.
Junior outside hitter Megan Sabo added 15 kills for the Titans (1-0) and sophomore setter Kim Levey had 41 assists and just two ball-handling errors.
Jennie James and Amanda Berg each had 10 kills for the Bengals (0-1).
The Titans play Fordham at 1 p.m. today and San Francisco at 7:30.
San Francisco defeated Fordham Friday, 15-8, 15-9, 15-4.
In the Concordia volleyball tournament:
Concordia 3, Holy Names 0--Erin Shevlin had 12 kills and Annie Sand had 11 to help Concordia to its 16-6, 15-10, 15-11 victory. Shevlin also had 19 digs.
In an earlier game, Concordia defeated the College of Notre Dame, 17-5, 13-15, 15-6, 15-10. Freshman Sara Whitehouse had six kills in the match.
The Eagles play U.S. International and Southwestern today.
In FILA men’s soccer:
Cal State Fullerton 4, Rutgers 1--David Dischner scored two goals and assisted on another to help the Titans to a first-round victory.
Dischner put Fullerton ahead to stay nine minutes into the game with an angled shot off a pass from Duncan Oughton. Freshman Sean Guidice made it 2-0 at 52 minutes with a header off a free kick by Oughton, and Dischner scored again in the 56th minute off a pass from Kris Hulgreen to make it 3-0. Brent Whitfield took a pass from Dischner to score the final goal in the 68th minute.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Concordia 8, Menlo College 0--Heather Hoffman had three goals and an assist in Concordia’s season opener.
