Santa Monica 9, Ventura 7--The Pirates held host Santa Monica to 94 yards, but breakdowns in their punting game led to all Corsair points in a WSC interdivisional game.
Thomas Short’s blocked third-quarter punt led to the Corsairs’ lone touchdown. Royce Holloway scored two plays after Marcus Gillison’s return gave Santa Monica (4-2, 4-1) the ball on Ventura three.
Lee Lewis’ 37-yard return on the ensuing kickoff gave Ventura (2-4, 2-4) the ball on the Corsair 43, but David Cameron fumbled the ball away two plays later.
Ventura (2-4, 2-4) did not get into Santa Monica territory again until its final drive, which ended when Eddie Carrasco recovered quarterback Taru Dailey’s fumble at the Corsair 43 with 1:22 left.
Dailey turned a near sack into a 26-yard first-quarter touchdown run, two plays after Jose Valenzuela intercepted Chris Griffin’s pass and returned it 10 yards to the Santa Monica 21.
