It took four years, but Robert Herrick of Valencia is finally getting his chance.
Herrick, a transfer from Alemany, will get his first varsity start in a playoff opener at Palmdale after starter Kyle Bauer broke a finger last week.
“I just had to wait for my shot and this is it,” said Herrick, who played on the freshman and sophomore teams at Alemany.
Coach Brian Stiman thinks Herrick is up to the task.
“He understands what it takes,” he said. “We have all the confidence in the world in him.”
