West Valley League finals--Senior Daniel Clements of Taft ran a career-best of 15:28 over the three-mile course at Pierce College to lead the Toreadors to a 33-54 victory over Birmingham.
Clements, runner-up in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters in the City Section track and field championships in May, defeated runner-up Chris Wells-Anders of El Camino Real by 13 seconds.
Birmingham, led by individual champion Melissa Astete, swept the first six places in the girls’ race to post a 15-61 victory over El Camino Real.
Astete, three-time defending City champion in the pole vault, clocked 19:54 to win her second consecutive league title.
Sunset Six League finals--Senior Natalie Stein of North Hollywood cruised to her fourth consecutive league title while battling a cold at Pierce College.
Stein, runner-up in the last two City championships, clocked 18:45 to lead the Huskies to a 21-45 victory over Poly.
Poly defeated Canoga Park, 25-46, for the boys’ title and Nelson Alfaro of North Hollywood ran 16:27 to win the individual championship.
Valley Mission League finals--Germain Ortiz led Monroe teammate Manuel Ruiz across the finish line at Pierce College to lead the Vikings to a 21-50 victory over Van Nuys.
Ortiz, sixth in the City final last year, won in 15:49, with Ruiz at 16:09.
Diana Zepeda beat out Kennedy teammate Monica Modi for the individual title in the girls’ race, but Reseda defeated the Golden Cougars, 25-32, for the team championship.
