Tsilah Burman, a member of the city’s South Valley Area Planning Commission, announced Thursday that she is joining the crowded race for the 3rd District seat on the Los Angeles City Council.
The seat is being vacated next year by Laura Chick, who is running for city controller.
Burman, a Woodland Hills resident who is senior director of CB Richard Ellis, has worked for Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles), former state Sen. Herschel Rosenthal and Zev Yaroslavsky when he was a city councilman.
“I’m running for City Council because at this pivotal moment of our city’s history, residents of the 3rd Council District must have a representative at City Hall who will, without a doubt, fight for their fair share of city services and public safety resources,” said Burman, 41, who vowed not to accept contributions from City Hall lobbyists.
Burman filed papers with the city Ethics Commission in July to begin raising money for a possible campaign. In kicking off her race Thursday, Burman announced she has hired campaign consultant Cynthia Corona, who worked on Councilman Mike Feuer’s successful election.
Seven other candidates have filed papers to run for the district seat, although one has since dropped out. The election will be held next spring.
The district includes Woodland Hills, Canoga Park, Winnetka, Tarzana, Reseda, Encino and West Hills.
