Wandering Off the Mark

I’m disappointed that the Travel section included the frivolous article by world wanderer Mike McIntyre (“Chasing Down Big Macs in Bangkok,” the Wander Year, May 21).
What a waste of valuable resources to include an article about American junk food and shopping malls in Thailand, when there are many more fun and exciting things to see, eat, experience and presumably write about.
I sure hope he’s having a profitable time abroad writing such embarrassing trash because he actually needs to grow up and smell the roses.

As a frequent Third World traveler, it disgusts me to read the Wander Year series. Of all the things to look for in Bangkok, Big Macs would not be on my list. In the “Ugly American” tradition, these travelers seem to think the world should all be burgers.
Keep your whining selves at home. For your next “adventure,” I would suggest Century City.
