Suspected Rebels Attack Ex-Lawmaker

Two suspected Tamil Tiger rebels posing as job-seekers tried to assassinate a former Sri Lankan lawmaker in his home, but guards gunned down one of them and the other later killed himself by setting off a grenade, police said. Six people, including the retired member of Parliament, M. K. Gunawardene, were injured, police said. The motive for the attack was not known, police said.
