Aetna Inc., the No. 1 U.S. health insurer, said that Michael Cardillo is retiring as president of Aetna U.S. Healthcare, marking the second top executive to leave the troubled company in three months. Aetna, which is splitting in two in an attempt to lift a flagging share price, said Chairman and Chief Executive William Donaldson will continue in his recently appointed role as CEO of the U.S. Healthcare operation. Donaldson became Aetna’s CEO in February after Richard Huber resigned under mounting shareholder criticism. Shares of Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna closed up 31 cents at $59 on the New York Stock Exchange, before Cardillo’s departure was announced.
