The city will honor a police officer shot in the line of duty, making him grand marshal of the Fourth of July parade.
Officer Nicholas Ekovich foiled a robbery attempt at a hair salon in September. The policeman killed the gunman, but not before he fired six shots, four of which hit the officer’s bulletproof vest and two of which shattered his left arm.
As grand marshal, Ekovich will ride in a convertible in the 96th annual parade, one of the largest west of the Mississippi.
