Vieques

* It is unconscionable for the U.S. government to endanger the lives and health of its Puerto Rican citizens by bombing Vieques (May 5). President George Bush stopped the bombing of the Hawaiian island Kahoolawe, and it wasn’t even inhabited. When we can’t convert former military bases in California to civilian use because of “extensive pollution,” the U.S. government cannot plead ignorance of the effects of its military actions. Let’s show Puerto Ricans that they are not second-class citizens and stop the bombing.
