With a red-light camera system operating at just one intersection--Del Obispo Street and Ortega Highway--the Orange County Sheriff’s Department issued 38 citations in eight days last month.
The department began issuing the $271 citations based on photographs taken April 10. It is still reviewing the 65 photos taken since April 18 to determine which of those will result in citations, Deputy Tim Jansen said.
Cameras at the Camino Capistrano and Del Obispo intersection and at Del Obispo and Camino del Avion have been installed but are not in service yet, City Engineer Bill Huber said.
Traffic Safety Systems Inc., the Culver City company installing the cameras, is putting up signs and making technical adjustments at the intersections Friday and should have the cameras running soon, he said.
