City officials on Tuesday approved spending $50,000 to remove asbestos inside City Hall before construction begins on a seismic retrofit at the building this month.
The asbestos will be removed from the acoustical ceilings in the basement and first and third floors, where the ceilings will be disturbed by the retrofit project.
Gretchen Beatty, the city’s risk manager, said that if done correctly, the removal will not pose a threat to anyone working or visiting the building.
