Royal Holds Court in Three Games

Casey Wilkinson had 21 kills and nine digs to power Royal High, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, to an 18-16, 16-14, 15-9 boys’ volleyball victory over No. 10 Thousand Oaks on Friday night at Royal.
Scott Motzel had 16 kills and eight blocks for the Highlanders (4-0, 2-0 in league play).
Danny Raven had 17 kills for Thousand Oaks (2-2, 0-1).
Alemany def. Harvard-Westlake, 16-14, 13-15, 15-4, 4-15, 15-8--Joe Chavez had 20 kills and Eugene Kim had 16 kills and 11 blocks for the Indians in a Mission League victory at Alemany.
Darrin Phillips added 17 kills and Jeff Jagiello had 60 assists for Alemany (4-0), ranked No. 8 in the region.
Scott Fowler had 23 kills for Harvard-Westlake (1-4, 1-1).
Granada Hills def. Van Nuys 15-10, 15-8, 15-12--Adam Ghoniem had 15 kills for the Highlanders in a victory at Van Nuys.
Brad Kelley and Derek Saenz each had 12 kills for Granada Hills (3-0). Hylie Chung had 12 kills for Van Nuys (2-1).
Chaminade def. Crespi, 15-3, 15-13, 15-1--Adam Hickerson had nine kills for the Eagles (3-0) in a Mission League opener at Chaminade.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Calabasas 16, Newbury Park 2--Nick Weiss, ranked No. 10 in the boys’ 18 division in Southern California by the U.S. Tennis Assn., surrendered one game in three sets at No. 1 singles for the Coyotes (2-3) at Calabasas.
Braden Aftergood and Trevor Hinden swept three sets for Calabasas at No. 1 doubles.
Burbank 10, Glendale 8--Eugene Shin and Min Kang swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, for the Bulldogs at Burbank.
Shin and Kang are 12-0 for Burbank (4-0).
Harvard-Westlake 17, Alemany 1--Brian Shafa and Alexander Levitt swept three sets by 6-0 scores at No. 3 doubles and the Wolverines (3-1, 2-0) won a Mission League match at Cal State Northridge.
Sunil Nemani of Alemany (0-1, 0-1) beat Andrew Swerdloff, 6-3.
Cate 9, St. Bonaventure 9--Eric Milinar beat Thomas Mack, 7-5, on his eighth set point to pull the Seraphs even, but Cate won on games, 76-70, at Camino Real Park in Ventura.
BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Taft 90, Belmont 32--Chris Morgan won three events and Fred Williams two for the Toreadors (1-0) in a nonleague meet at Taft.
Morgan won the 110-yard high hurdles in 14.5 seconds, the 330 hurdles in 43.2 seconds and the long jump with a mark of 21-4 1/2.
Williams clocked 10.8 seconds in the 100 meters and won the 220-yard race in 22.2 seconds.
GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Taft 73, Belmont 45--Deneeka Torrey and Erin Reed each won two events for the Toreadors (1-0) in a nonleague meet at Taft.
Torrey won the 100 hurdles in 14.4 seconds and the 330 hurdles in 47.2 seconds. Reed was a winner in the 220 in 25.2 and the 440 in 58.5.
Ashley Lynn won the shotput at 35-1 1/2 and Schquay Brignac won the high jump at five feet for Taft.
