The Planning Commission has paved the way for a car wash on North Coast Highway despite opposition from residents.
The commission on Wednesday unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the car wash over a staff recommendation to turn it down because of neighborhood impact.
Seven residents voiced their opposition to the project at the meeting, citing noise, traffic and view impacts on the community.
“North Laguna is a difficult area,” Planning Commissioner Cheryl Kinsman said. “It’s underutilized. We’d like to see more businesses there. Hopefully this will start a revitalization of the area.”
The empty 18,000-square-foot lot where the car wash would be built, at 1369 North Coast Highway, used to be the site of a gas station that was demolished in 1989.
