Oregon Rallies to Sweep Arizonas

Oregon’s second amazing comeback in three days sent the Pacific 10 race into even further disarray, and made No. 3-ranked Arizona that much more desperate to get Loren Woods back.

Frederick Jones scored a career-high 27 points, and Oregon outscored Arizona, 15-1. in the final 4:46 to hand the Wildcats their second consecutive loss, 86-81, Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

“It was just one of those grooves you get in,” said Jones, who scored 16 second-half points to help Oregon (21-7 overall, 12-5 in the Pacific 10) come back from 17 points down.

Oregon was coming off a 76-74 win over Arizona State on Thursday in which it scored six points in the final five seconds, winning on Darius Wright’s buzzer-beating heave.

Michael Wright scored a career-high 28 for Arizona (24-6, 13-3), but was held scoreless in the final 6 1/2 minutes as the Wildcats missed a chance to grab a share of the Pacific 10 lead after Stanford lost to UCLA in overtime.

Arizona made only one field goal in the final 11:15. The Wildcats had only seven players available and were without center Woods, the team’s leading scorer (15.8 points a game) who is expected to be sidelined because of a back injury until the NCAA tournament.

Alex Scales, who scored a career-high 31 points against Arizona State on Thursday night, had 20--including a layup that tied the game at 80-80 with 1:10 left. Darius Wright stole the ball from Luke Walton and, after being fouled, made two free throws to give Oregon an 82-80 lead. Two more Wright free throws gave the Ducks an 84-81 lead.

Arizona had a chance to tie in the final seconds, but Jason Gardner’s leaning long-range shot was off.

Arizona State 77, Oregon State 74--The Sun Devils (17-11, 9-7) kept their NCAA tournament hopes alive with an overtime victory over the Beavers (13-15, 5-12) at Corvallis, Ore.

Eddie House, the Pac-10’s leading scorer at 22.8 points a game, scored 24 for Arizona State and rebounded Deaundra Tanner’s missed three-point shot as time ran out in overtime. Tanner made a three-point shot at the buzzer in overtime that beat Arizona, 70-69, Thursday.

Washington 64, Washington State 60--The Huskies (10-18, 5-11) defeated the Cougars (6-20, 1-15) at Seattle to end a home-court losing streak at seven.
