SOUTH LOS ANGELES — Oscar Gamboa, 35, has been sentenced to 1,017 days in jail after pleading no contest to his third drunk driving charge in five months, prosecutors said.
Gamboa was sentenced Wednesday by Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Nancy Gast for one count each of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and driving without a valid license.
Gamboa’s most recent arrest came June 4, when a car he was driving crashed into an empty parked car in the 300 block of West 70th Street, said Deputy City Atty. Jorge Gonzalez, who prosecuted Gamboa.
Gamboa drove away after the crash but returned a few minutes later and was questioned by police, who suspected that he had been drinking.
After failing a field sobriety test, Gamboa was arrested, the prosecutor said. A breath test showed that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.30--more than three times the legal limit of 0.08, Gonzalez said.
Gamboa was on probation after being convicted of drunk driving in March and May, Gonzalez said.
