Jetliner Slides Off Runway; None Hurt

A U.S. Airways jet skidded off the runway at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, N.C., as a winter storm blanketed the area with snow and freezing rain. None of the 142 passengers aboard Flight 2399 was hurt. U.S. Airways spokeswoman Sharon Taylor said the MD-80, en route from Orlando, Fla., landed safely at 7:26 p.m. and was turning from the runway onto a taxiway when it slid onto a grassy area. “Everyone was fine,” Taylor said. “We offloaded the passengers on mobile air stairs.” Taylor said most of the passengers made their connecting flights.
