CYPRESS PARK — An MTA bus struck and killed a 39-year-old man Thursday morning at West Avenue 28 and Idell Street, authorities said.
Armen Mandakunian, who lived near the accident scene, was crossing Avenue 28 about 7 a.m. when the bus hit him while making a right turn, said LAPD Officer Michael Jolicoeur.
The bus driver, Cheryl Zoller, told authorities she did not see anything but “felt a thump and immediately pulled over and discovered the victim,” said MTA spokesman Marc Littman. Zoller has been with MTA for more than 20 years, he said.
The victim “received massive crushing injuries and was declared dead at the scene,” said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The cause is under investigation by the LAPD and MTA. There were no witnesses.
