The city received $210,000 from the state housing department Wednesday to build and renovate low-income housing projects throughout the city. Buena Park and San Juan Capistrano received similar grants. The cities applied for the state funding last year to assist low-income residents. “Federal funding is very difficult to get because there is so much need and not enough funds,” said Maria Garcia, a senior city planner in La Habra who oversees housing. “Any opportunity or grant we receive is just great.” La Habra will use the funds to help single-family homeowners make repairs. San Juan Capistrano will use its $500,000 grant to help low-income families buy first homes. Buena Park also received $500,000 to assist low-income residents in that city.
