MTA Offers Free Rides for Holiday Eves

Free bus and train rides are being offered tonight and New Year’s Eve by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The free rides are available on all MTA buses from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and on all Metro Rail lines from 9 p.m. to closing.
“We wanted to encourage people to take public transit to holiday celebrations,” said Gary Wosk, MTA spokesman. “If we can prevent one accident, then it makes it all worth it.”
It is the MTA’s sixth year of offering free bus and train rides on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve--an effort to help reduce drunk-driving accidents.
On Christmas and New Year’s Day, both of which fall on a Monday, MTA buses and trains will operate on a Sunday schedule, officials said.
Route and schedule information is available at (800) COMMUTE (266-6883) or the MTA Web site at https://www.mta.net.
