Woman Charged With Endangerment

A San Clemente woman was charged with two counts of endangering the life of a child Wednesday after allegedly trying to drown her 4 1/2-month-old twins in a bathtub, authorities said.
Paula Thompson, 46, was arrested Tuesday after family members found her in an upstairs bathroom with her infants, who were fully clothed and soaking wet but unharmed, authorities said.
The boy and girl were left in their father’s care by the Orange County Social Services Agency.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino declined to say why authorities believe Thompson was attempting to drown the children, citing an ongoing investigation.
Thompson was suffering from “major post-partum depression . . . since the birth of the kids in July,” Amormino said.
Thompson, who was placed on suicide watch at Orange County Jail on Tuesday, is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 21.
