GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP

In the El Dorado Gary Raya Co-Ed tournament:

El Dorado 61, Villa Park 57 (OT)--Melissa Jacob scored with five seconds remaining in regulation, and made four free-throws in overtime to seal the victory. The Golden Hawks are 7-1.

In the Mission Viejo Jim Hill Memorial tournament:

Calvary Chapel 49, Palos Verdes Peninsula 32--Rochelle Werdel had a game-high 17 points and four assists and Erin John had 14 points for Calvary Chapel (5-2).

In nonleague basketball:

No. 5 Esperanza 50, No. 10 Irvine 45--Ashley Van Kurin made two three-pointers late in the fourth quarter, as Esperanza came from behind. Van Kurin scored 12 for Esperanza (4-2). Kristin Thawley had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jody Carlson had 14 points for Irvine (3-3).

No. 8 Edison 49, Laguna Hills 45--Rachael Ziemann scored 20 points for Edison (4-2). Laguna Hills’ Megan Aaker scored 25.

Anaheim 59, Loara 50--Brenda Gallardo made six three-pointers and finished with 31 points for visiting Anaheim (2-3).

Costa Mesa 56, Newport Harbor 44--Nancy Hatsushi scored a career-high 25 and set a school record with six three-point baskets.

Santa Margarita 47, Bellflower 42--Kim Bloomgren scored 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter as Santa Margarita (5-1) erased an 18-15 halftime deficit. Kristin Lynch had 16 points and seven steals for Santa Margarita.
