UC Irvine Women Beat New Mexico State

Maree Vincent had 21 points and six assists to help UC Irvine defeat New Mexico State, 70-43, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at UC Irvine.
The Anteaters (3-4) held the Aggies (3-4) to four points in the first nine minutes and built a 31-12 halftime lead.
Cindy Oparah recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Irvine, which shot 48% from the field. Lisa Woznick added 12 points and Brandy Hudson had 10 points and nine rebounds. The Anteaters outrebounded the Aggies, 40-27.
Sinnamonn Garrett scored 20 points for New Mexico State, making four of six three-pointers.
WATER POLO
Foothill’s Wes Fox scored with five seconds remaining to give the Orange County North team a 14-13 victory over the South in the championship game of the Southern Pacific All-Star boys’ tournament Sunday at Villa Park High.
It was second consecutive year the teams met in the championship of the eight-team tournament and the second consecutive title for the North. In last weekend’s county all-star game, the South won, 12-9.
Fox and Los Alamitos’ Erik Geoffroy each scored four goals for the North, and University’s Ted Peck led the South with five.
The score was tied, 9-9, at the half, with neither team taking more than a two-goal lead. The South led, 11-10, heading into the final quarter, and Fox’s goal off a missed shot clinched the title.
The county’s three all-star teams dominated the tournament, which featured eight all-star teams from around Southern California. The North defeated Central Orange County, 11-9, in the semifinals and the South defeated Tri-Counties, 16-11, to advance to the title game.
