VENTURA at ARROYO GRANDE, 7:30 p.m.

THE BREAKDOWN

Observations by Coach Rick Scott of Buena, which defeated Ventura, 28-21, in a Channel League game, and lost to Arroyo Grande, 31-27, in the quarterfinals:

“If the field’s dry, Arroyo Grande’s not going to be able to stop Tyler Ebell. Arroyo Grande’s defensive line isn’t going to be able to handle Ventura’s offensive line--that’s going to be a dominant thing that gives Ventura an advantage.

“Defensively, if Ventura has a weakness, it’s pass coverage. But Arroyo Grande’s inability to throw plays right into Ventura’s hands.

“The toughest part for Ventura this week is simulating Arroyo Grande’s offense and the things they can do. The last five weeks, Arroyo Grande has changed their offense, simplifying it and going more with power up the middle. They’ve changed quarterbacks and some other personnel, and they’re not the same team they were when Ventura beat them [41-28 on Sept. 29].

“One edge that [Arroyo Grande] has is their kicking game--they can kick off into the end zone and they can punt pretty well--but they’re still going to get out-gained by Ventura by about 150-200 yards.”
