The world seen through the eyes of Cal State Northridge was on display Monday during the opening of the annual Juried Student Art Show.
About 1,000 people are expected to attend the exhibition, featuring ceramics, video, computer design and other media, before it ends May 20, said Michelle Giacopuzzi, exhibition coordinator for CSUN Art Galleries.
Jurors chose 82 pieces of work from 312 submissions for the show, Giacopuzzi said.
“It’s very competitive,” she said. “I’m glad to see some students very excited because they made it.”
Winners in the categories of best of show, first, second and third place and honorable mention will be announced at a reception April 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Art Dome.
Giacopuzzi said she has been impressed with the diverse pieces. One of her favorites is “Shower Man,” an 8-foot metal sculpture of a man taking a shower “with water running and all,” she said.
“We have all kinds of different pieces,” she said. “It’s amazing what these students come up with.”
The exhibition will be closed from April 17 to 23 for spring break. Gallery hours are Monday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
