Irvine police said the city’s red-light cameras will go live in two weeks, after being delayed for months because of paperwork snarls.
Trying to squeak through yellow traffic lights that are bleeding into red will no longer be so tempting. At least that’s what police hope.
The two cameras--one digital, one video--were installed where Alton Parkway intersects with Muirlands Boulevard and Gateway early last month.
Two camera companies, which had been competing for a long-term contract with the city, offered their services at no charge for three months.
Police will identify drivers through Department of Motor Vehicles records and issue citations--which carry a $271 fine--through the mail.
