Flagel Throws No-Hitter for Woodbridge

Senior right-hander Eric Flagel pitched a no-hitter Friday as Woodbridge defeated Newport Harbor, 8-0, in a Sea View League baseball game at Woodbridge.
Flagel faced just 23 batters, striking out 12 and walking two. Only one ball was hit hard off Flagel, a line drive by the Sailors’ Nick Langsdorf that was grabbed by second baseman Ryan Cummings.
Geoff Martinez had two hits and three runs batted in and Brian Martinez had a triple, double and an RBI for the Warriors (2-6-1, 1-5).
In the Academy League:
Fairmont 18, St. Michael’s 13--Mike Mount had three hits, including a triple and home run, and four RBIs for host Fairmont (4-2, 1-1).
In the Century League:
Foothill 6, El Modena 5--With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Foothill’s Chad Bigler hit a grounder to third that scored Chris Carter when the throw home was dropped. Foothill is 6-6, 3-2.
No. 1 Villa Park 5, Santa Ana Valley 1--Dan Reid struck out 10 in 5 1/3 innings, improving his record to 4-0 for host Villa Park (11-1, 5-0). Junior Quintana had two hits, with a double and an RBI, and Jeff Tuttle had a hit, two walks, three stolen bases and two runs for the Spartans.
In the Garden Grove League:
No. 4 La Quinta 7, Pacifica 0--Freshman Ian Kennedy threw a five-hitter, striking out 10, and Jim Garvey hit a grand slam in the fourth inning for visiting La Quinta (12-0, 4-0).
Los Amigos 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Bishop Griggs squeezed home Jesus Rodarte for the winning run in the top of the sixth inning for Los Amigos (6-5, 2-2). Griggs (4-1) also picked up the victory on the mound.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 4, Brea Olinda 3--Matt Contreras’ two-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Hector Ambriz from second for host Valencia (8-3, 4-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Corona del Mar 2, Costa Mesa 1--Cavan Cuyler threw his third complete game of the season, allowing six hits and one earned run for Corona del Mar (5-5, 2-2). Visiting Costa Mesa is 5-5, 2-2.
In the Sea View League:
Aliso Niguel 11, Laguna Hills 6--Trailing, 6-3, heading into the seventh inning, Aliso Niguel (6-5, 3-3) rallied to tie the score and went ahead on Adam Tanos’ three-run double. Sean Koch capped it with a two-run home run.
In the South Coast League:
El Toro 9, Dana Hills 8 (8)--J.P. Lonne hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth to win the game for El Toro (7-4-1, 4-1). Lonne finished with two hits and three RBIs.
San Clemente 7, Mission Viejo 5--Ryan King hit a three-run triple and Billy Pinney had a home run and two RBIs for host San Clemente (4-8, 2-3).
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach 1, Edison 0--Freshman Wes Etheridge threw a two-hitter, issued just one intentional walk and struck out five for host Huntington Beach (6-6, 2-3). The Oilers scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
Los Alamitos 8, Marina 5--Senior Nick Fitzgerald hit a grand slam in the fifth inning for visiting Los Alamitos (7-5, 3-2). Senior Jerod Ball added two hits and two runs and Bryan DeSena pitched seven innings for his third victory.
