A lawsuit brought by residents and two nonprofit preservation groups against the Serrano Water District and SunCal, a developer, will be heard Oct. 27 in Superior Court.
The petitioners seek to preserve the 526-acre Barham Ranch as a nature site and allege that the water district’s agreement to sell Barham Ranch to SunCal violates the California Environmental Quality Act. According to activist Marilyn Ganahl, if the petitioners win, this decision could void the water district’s contract. A suit Serrano Water District has filed against the Orange Unified School District to force it to sell Barham Ranch, which it co-owns, is expected to go to court Nov. 1.
