Ministers Ask Renaming of Hustler Casino

GARDENA — A group of local ministers wants the planned Hustler Casino to change its name.
Hustler is “a name affiliated with pornography and . . . society’s worst elements,” said the Rev. George Villa, president of the 90-member Gardena Ministerial Assn.
His group opposes all forms of gambling, but the Hustler Casino is especially worrisome, he said.
“A name like Hustler is going to draw a lot of questionable people with questionable conduct.”
His group is urging the City Council to block licensing of the casino, which needs both state and local approval.
Hustler magazine Publisher Larry Flynt owns the casino property and building. His attorney, Alan Isaacman, is the business owner.
Isaacman, who met with the ministers last week, said there will be nothing suggestive about the casino except the name.
“It’s an extremely valuable name to attract people to our casino, and the city will benefit as a partner in sharing revenues,” Isaacman said.
