County Benefits

The Ventura County Supervisors appeared to be very pleased when they agreed to hire David Baker as chief administrative officer, but they were probably not as pleased as Mr. Baker.
The contract with Mr. Baker calls for an annual salary of $157,784, but another paragraph states “annualized salary and benefit costs are estimated at $239,832.” That’s a difference of $82,048 attributable to benefits.
You have to wonder what benefits are available to county employees that would amount to $82,000, or 52% of his salary.
I believe the county supervisors owe an explanation to the taxpayers.
