Rise in Chip Sales Expected

Worldwide sales of semiconductors are expected to rise 21% to $174 billion in 2000, driven by sales of chips used in mobile phones and communications equipment, according to the Semiconductor Industry Assn. After falling 8% last year, sales this year are expected to rise 15% to $144 billion, the association said.
