SEASON AT A GLANCE: Spiker, the defending Southern Section Division I champion, has won five of six races, including the individual sweepstakes race in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Spiker clocked 14:42 over the 2.95-mile course at Mt. SAC to win the individual sweepstakes race and move to sixth on the all-time course list. His time was the fastest at Mt. SAC since 1990 and came within 10 seconds of the course record set by Jeff Nelson of Burbank in 1978. “I still can’t believe I ran that fast,” Spiker said. “I didn’t think I was in that kind of shape right now.”
GIRLS
Rae Stumbough
SCHOOL: Nordhoff
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Cross-country
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Stumbough, who placed 15th in the state Division IV final last year, has won three races, including the Division IV sweepstakes race of the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Friday.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Stumbough ran 18:48 over the rugged 2.95-mile course at Mt. SAC to win the Division IV sweepstakes race and lead defending state champion Nordhoff to the team title. The time lowered by 23 seconds her previous best at Mt. SAC and came about a week after she missed three days of training because of illness.
