Santa Paula 39, Fillmore 20--Wide receiver Johnny Mata had a hand in four first-half touchdowns, including a 92-yard return of the opening kickoff, to lead the Cardinals at Santa Paula.
Mata, who had eight catches for 107 yards, caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Chad Metelak midway through the first quarter to give Santa Paula (4-2) a 14-6 lead.
Metelak scored on a one-yard sneak in the second quarter, and Mata completed a 55-yard touchdown on a double pass to make the score 20-6.
Mata’s nine-yard scoring reception from Metelak gave the Cardinals a 32-6 lead. Quarterback Kyle McDowell had one-yard touchdown run for Fillmore (3-3) on the final play of the first half.
Metelak completed 14 of 19 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
Ted Chewning of Fillmore rushed for 127 yards and one touchdown in 22 carries.
