* Sam Sandoval, a shortstop for St. Francis, has committed to Northridge.

Sandoval played in the Area Code Games in August in Long Beach, a gathering of 300 of the nation’s best high school players.

VOLLEYBALL

* Jared Corpening, a 6-foot-10 middle blocker for Quartz Hill, has committed to Northridge.

An All-Golden League selection last season, Corpening is the second Quartz Hill player in as many years to commit to Northridge. Outside hitter Brandan Butchart is a freshman for the Matadors.

BASKETBALL

* Rebecca Rebbe, an All-Mission League player at Notre Dame High, will sit out the season after undergoing knee surgery.
