‘Chicago 8’

Re “30th Anniversary of ‘Chicago 8’ Trial Celebrated,” Nov. 7: Why should Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale “repent” for their activities in Chicago in 1968? They were protesting an unjust war that even Chief Hawk Robert McNamara admits he knew was wrong. A war that took the lives of 58,000 Americans, wounded thousands more and killed and wounded millions of innocent Vietnamese civilians.
The Chicago 8 were beaten, arrested and jailed; Seale was dragged in chains from the courtroom and never tried. Erroneous convictions were overturned.
And they should repent? It’s the reporter who should repent for his unwarranted insinuations. As should the government and Chicago police for their transgressions.
