Re “U.S. Drags Heels as Panama Plans Canal Transfer Party,” Nov. 11: Understandably, none of the current players in Washington is eager to represent the U.S. at the upcoming festivities marking the turnover of the Panama Canal.
This should not be such a dilemma. There is an obvious candidate who has the requisite stature, is no longer running for office and, most importantly, was chiefly responsible for the deal in the first place: Jimmy Carter.
