Speaking of Silents
While I think it’s great that the Silent Movie Theatre is reopening, I think it’s important to point out that it is not the only silent movie house in the country (“Silent Calling,” by Robin Rauzi, Nov. 4).
The Old Towne Music Hall in El Segundo features great silent films and vintage Hollywood sound features. Each and every show includes a performance on the mighty Wurlitzer organ, an old-fashioned sing-along, a classic short and the feature following an intermission. Whenever I go, I feel like I’ve stepped back in time.
Watching Laurel and Hardy with live accompaniment and a theater full of people laughing hysterically gave me a new appreciation for the motion picture medium and how much of a great escape a trip to the movies can be.
